COSTUME DESIGN TRAINING

During my bachelor project i realized that I struggle the most with designing characters and costumes. I didn’t want it to stay that way, so here are the results of my training.

To get better at design I followed an online course from Adam Middleton on Learnsquared. Throughout the course I learned a lot about the ideation process and the necessary steps to create in interesting and grounded costume design. I also picked up a few new techniques and skills in Photoshop and Blender.

The costume designs and charaters below are part of my worldbuilding project The Ebbtide Journals. I would be happy to see you in the next step of the journey!

THE PILGRIM

Only a few are chosen by the elder council to become Pilgrims, an isolated but revered order devoted to restoring humanity’s lost glory through the collection of books and knowledge. Chosen for their courage, knowledge, and strength, they travel under the protection of the Moon Spirit across lands reclaimed from the sea in search of survivors, forgotten cities, and especially libraries. All Pilgrims share three defining tools—stilts to move through flooded terrain, large backpacks for supplies and salvaged books, and masks marking them as servants of the moon goddess, forbidden to reveal their faces to anyone but the keepers of books.

THE ENVOY

Envoys are aspiring Librarians tasked with delivering messages and goods within Kern and between the districts of Kaars, serving as the vital link between the Periphery, Expansion, and Kern itself. Their identity is known only to the Librarians, and the person beneath the cloth may change from day to day. All Envoys wear the same Mask of Ebb and Flow and carry moon-shaped backpacks whose contents can only be accessed by intended recipients. Free to move across all of Kaars, they pass through both bright city districts and forgotten industrial shadows, and their role grants them respect wherever they go, discouraging any interference. Like the Librarians, they revere knowledge as sacred, believing that anything that obstructs its flow must be removed.
